LONDON, Nov 23 (Reuters) – A patch of virtual real estate in the online world Decentraland sold for a record $2.4 million worth of cryptocurrency, the buyer crypto investor Tokens.com and Decentraland said on Tuesday.

It comes after police arrested and charged three men with murder over the death of Mohammed Aqil Mahdi, 22, who was found dead in Navigation Road next to the River Lea, Bromley-by-Bow, Tower Hamlets, on November 6.

“The deluge of images of animals and habitats in peril can be hard to digest,” the awards’ team writes on its website. “The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards’ content accesses our empathy by showing how alike we really are. You don’t need to cover your eyes or look away. We want our viewers to share our enjoyment of nature and take the time to recognise its value.”

In March, the BBC reported a man in Germany was duped by a Bitcoin giveaway scam tweeted by a fake Musk account. The tweet asked people to send anything from 0.1 Bitcoin to 20 Bitcoin and Musk’s team would send back double the amount. The scammer created the illusion the account belonged to Musk by using it to reply to a real tweet from the Tesla boss. The scammer copied Musk’s profile picture and used a verified Twitter account. But if you look closely, the Twitter handle of the fake Musk account is @JoshyMcB not @elonmusk. 

The top prize, unveiled this week, went to the Ken Jensen’s photo “Ouch,” which shows a golden silk monkey in China that’s apparently taken a painful fall. The position is actually a display of aggression but looks like a scene out of a slapstick comedy.

A subsidiary of Tokens.com, called the Metaverse Group, bought a patch of real estate for 618,000 MANA on Monday, which was around $2,428,740 at the time, a Decentraland spokesman and a statement by Tokens.com said.
